Dr. Joshua White earned his BS (’07), MBA (’08), and PhD (’12) in finance from the University of Tennessee. As an outstanding PhD student, Dr. White was awarded the Walter Melville Bonham Graduate Fellowship, a College of Business Administration ESPN Scholarship, a J. Wallace & Katie Dean Graduate Fellowship, and a Allen H. Keally Graduate Teaching Award.

After completing his doctoral degree, Joshua joined the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Washington, D.C. as a Financial Economist Fellow in the Division of Risk, Strategy and Financial Innovation.

In this position, Joshua serves as the lead or support economist in rules related to securities offerings, fraud and manipulation in the stock market. Dr. White helps ensure that decisions to propose or adopt rules are accompanied by information about a rule’s likely economic consequence, including the potential costs and benefits, and alternative regulatory actions. This analysis helps the SEC determine if a particular rule is in the public interest. To conduct this analysis, Joshua relies upon expertise gained through extensive research while he was a student at Tennessee. In addition to learning the latest econometric techniques used in quantitative analysis, Joshua cites the ability to work closely with faculty in a program that supports high quality research as equipping him with the tools necessary to complete this type of analysis.

Joshua is also enjoying the experience of living in Washington, D.C. In addition to the historical landmarks, monuments and museums, Joshua notes the cultural diversity of D.C. affords a unique opportunity to experience new activities and festivals, and a seemingly endless number of restaurants.
