2015-2016 Torch Fund Manager Profiles

 

Colin Campbell

 

Colin Campbell is a native of Kingsport, TN.  He graduated Cum Laude from Creighton University in Omaha, NE with a double major in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management.  While at Creighton, he was a four-year letter winner for their Division 1 men’s soccer team.  Following undergrad, Colin worked as a financial analyst for a specialty construction company in Boston, MA where he focused on developing cost savings initiatives and improving project profitability.  After years in Boston, Colin returned to Kingsport and accepted a position with Edward Jones Investments as a Financial Advisor where he spent the last year helping clients strategically work towards their long-term financial goals.  While in Kingsport, Colin was active within the community through the Next Supper initiative, the Chamber of Commerce, and PEAK (Professionals Engaged in Advancing Kingsport).  Colin views his position in the Torch Funds as an excellent opportunity to deepen his analytical knowledge and further develop his investment selection process.

 

Ridge Carter

 

Ridge Carter is an M.B.A candidate at the University of Tennessee who plans to concentrate in finance and is currently completing Bloomberg training. He has a special interest in wealth management, particularly for those underserved. Ridge obtained his B.A. in biochemistry from Maryville College where he also played varsity soccer for 4 years and even earned Academic All-American honors. After completing his undergraduate studies, Ridge began working at a biochemistry lab at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His first paper, Enhanced Photocurrent from Photosystem I upon in vitro Truncation of the Antennae Chlorophyll, was accepted for publication in Photosynthesis Research in 2015, and his goal is to submit his second paper before starting his M.B.A studies. He hopes to continue developing his quantitative and qualitative skills as part of the Torch Fund.

 

Thatiana Haddad DeCarvalho

 

Thatiana Haddad is an MBA candidate at the University of Tennessee. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, she graduated from Mackenzie University with a Bachelors degree in Economics. Thatiana spent 6 years at Siemens Healthcare in Brazil where she worked with financial planning & analysis (FP&A) and strategic marketing. Thatiana views the position as a Haslam Torch Fund Manager as a thrilling opportunity to leverage her skills in finance and prepare herself for a career in portfolio management or investment banking. Completed Bloomberg training May 2015.

 

Shane Kaster

 

Shane Kaster is a dual J.D./M.B.A. candidate at the University of Tennessee, concentrating in business transactions and corporate finance. He was born in Cincinnati, OH, attended high school in his "hometown" Louisville, KY, and has since been a resident of Nashville and Knoxville, TN. Shane earned his B.A. in philosophy and corporate strategy at Vanderbilt University, where he also studied criminology and creative Industries abroad in Copenhagen, DK. In the past several years, he has accrued business and legal experience working for various small and large firms in TN and KY. Currently, he works as an Intellectual Property and Commercialization Analyst at the UT Research Foundation. He also serves on the Editorial Board of Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law and was a Fundraising Chair on the Executive Board of UT Law Pro Bono. Having already completed the first year of his MBA coursework, Shane eagerly joined the Torch Fund to fortify his financial analysis acumen for more leverage into a career in corporate/securities law, investment banking or private equity.

 

Tyler Morgan

 

Tyler Morgan is an M.B.A. candidate at the University of Tennessee Haslam College of Business.  He is concentrating in finance and currently completing Bloomberg training.  Prior to business school, Tyler practiced corporate law and commercial litigation in Knoxville.  He earned his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law and is a member of the Tennessee and Knox County Bar Associations.  As a graduate student, Tyler works as an intellectual property analyst at the University of Tennessee Research Foundation, where he conducts patent searches and market analysis to support the commercialization of University of Tennessee technologies.  Tyler joined the Torch Fund to obtain practical experience in portfolio management, which will prepare him for a career in investment banking or private equity.

Krysia Camino

 

Krysia Camino, originally from Ocala, FL, is a dual J.D./M.B.A. candidate at the University of Tennessee, concentrating in business transactions. Krysia attended Vanderbilt University where she received a B.A. in Medicine, Health, & Society, Spanish, and Philosophy. Following her undergraduate studies, Krysia worked at the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Nashville before leaving to pursue her legal education. She currently serves as Candidacy Process Editor on the Tennessee Journal of Law and Policy and Secretary for the National Latino/a Law Student Association. In 2014 Krysia clerked at the Lima, Peru office of Baker & McKenzie, an international law firm. This coming summer, she will be working in the General Counsel’s Office at Pilot Flying J. She hopes to leverage her legal background to bring continued success to the Torch Fund.

Jeff Entin

 

Jeff Entin is an MBA candidate at the University of Tennessee concentrating in Finance.  Born and raised in Farmington Hills, MI, he graduated from Michigan State University where he obtained his B.A. in Finance.   During his undergraduate tenure, Jeff joined Delta Sigma Pi, a Professional Business Fraternity, and spent a summer semester abroad studying marketing in Italy, France, and Belgium.  Jeff spent a year after college working in retail banking until moving to Denver in 2013 after accepting a position with Fidelity Investments as a Financial Representative, where he helped clients make financial decisions regarding their retirement and personal accounts.  Jeff is very excited to become a Torch Fund Manager.  He views it as a great opportunity to deepen his knowledge of equity markets and leverage his analytical mindset to make beneficial contributions to the Fund.  Upon graduation, Jeff plans to use his MBA degree and experience as a Torch Fund Manager to pursue a career in private client banking.

Virginia Schaedle

 

Virginia Schaedle is originally from Franklin, Tennessee. She plans on concentrating in Finance while pursuing her MBA at the University of Tennessee. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in May of 2012 with a B.S. in Management and a collateral in Marketing. Upon graduation, Virginia accepted a position as a Teach for America, Inc. corps member in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a corps member, she taught both 8th and 6th grade science. After teaching, Virginia accepted a position at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey as a Portfolio Management Specialist. At STRH, she learned the processes and procedures to ensure soundness, profitability, and growth for the group portfolio.  As a Torch Fund manager, Virginia hopes to extend her understanding of portfolio management and capital markets while strengthening her research and analytical abilities.
