What is the UT Investment Group (UTIG)?

The UT Investment Group (UTIG) is an active, student-managed organization that is dedicated to improving its members’ understanding of financial literacy and to helping members develop practical investment skills.


The UT Investment Group provides a forum to discuss and learn about investing, and activities include hosting distinguished high-achieving senior investment executives at monthly meetings, where members enjoy catered dinners. Previous UTIG speakers have included Doug Webster (SageView Advisory), Blair Patteson and Christina Mosser (Morgan Stanley), Dugan McLaughlin (Merrill Lynch), Paul Green (UBS), Jim Brogan (Brogan Financial), David Moon (Moon Capital Management), Chris Cameron (Merrill Lynch), Frank Venable (Morgan Stanley), Chelse Stevens (Capital Financial), Ryan Moffett and Tyler Michalove (Blacker Capital), Adam Smith (Alcoa), and Bruce Gress (Pilot Oil).


UTIG hosts a 10-week trading competition, “Wolf of Vol Street,” where over 100 students compete for cash prizes each semester. Students manage $100,000 mock portfolio and actively trade equities and options and utilize short-selling and various strategies in an effort to earn the highest risk-adjusted return.
